Kellogg's Introduces Special K Plus
Kellogg Company (Battle Creek, MI) is adding o its cereal line-up with Kellogg's Special K Plus cereal. The company describes the product as a "mix of multi-grain flakes, raisins, dates and almonds" with "more calcium than any other national cereal brand."
Designed for the nutritional needs of women, the new cereal offers 60% Daily Value of calcium, 90% Daily Value of iron, and 100% Daily Value of folic acid and vitamin B12. Even without milk, a serving of Special K Plus has the calcium equivalent of two glasses of milk, according to the company. To emphasize its high calcium content, the product's package resembles a half-gallon milk carton.
"It is disappointing that so many women continue to lack the recommended daily allowances of critical nutrients such as calcium and iron in their diets," said Celeste Clark, senior VP, nutrition and marketing, Kellogg Company. "Special K Plus was specifically created to help women supplement this nutritional shortfall."
Special K Plus is a low-fat cereal containing whole wheat, corn and rice flakes in addition to raisins, dates and almonds. Each one-cup serving contains 210 calories with 2.0-g of fat and 3.0-g of dietary fiber.
The half-gallon size "milk carton" package holds 15-oz of cereal, the same amount as a standard-size 15-oz cereal box. The carton doesn't require a separate bag liner, and its pour spout includes a reclosable slide to ensure freshness.
The product is now available nationwide in supermarkets and retail stores
